Contemporary Brick Fireplace Installation in Hook, Hampshire

At Firebug, we specialize in transforming living spaces with bespoke fireplace designs. Recently, we had the pleasure of creating a modern brick fireplace for a customer in Hook, Hampshire. The outdated stone fireplace in their home felt mismatched and dated, prompting the need for a fresh, contemporary solution.

 Removing the Old Fireplace

We began the project by carefully dismantling the existing stone fireplace surround and lining. This allowed us to create the necessary space for the new brickwork installation. Once we cleared out the old elements, we lined the fireplace with fresh facing brickwork, setting the stage for a stunning centerpiece.

Crafting a Custom Brick Fireplace

Our design featured a slightly curved opening that adds a unique touch to the overall look. To support a grand oak mantlepiece, we incorporated corbel brickwork, ensuring both strength and style. We also cut out the bottom of the mantlepiece, allowing it to fit seamlessly over the brickwork. This detail accommodates any potential movement, ensuring the joint between the wood and brick remains visually appealing for years to come.

Choosing the Right Hearth Material

For the hearth, we selected honed black granite, known for its sleek appearance and durability. We fitted the granite in two pieces to allow for thermal expansion from the heat of the wood burner, enhancing the longevity of the installation.

The Perfect Wood Burning Stove

To complete the fireplace, we installed the Salisbury 5 series by Chesney’s—one of our favorite wood-burning stoves. This model excels in efficiency and ease of use, effectively convecting heat into the room while maintaining a modern look. With a self-cleaning glass feature, it ensures a clear view of the flames. Plus, as a Defra-approved stove, it meets stringent environmental standards, making it an excellent choice for eco-conscious homeowners.

 Conclusion

The result of our work in Hook, Hampshire, is a striking contemporary brick fireplace that elevates the overall aesthetic of the home. At Firebug, we are dedicated to creating custom fireplace solutions that blend functionality with beauty. Small Wood Burning Stove with Cast Iron Fireplace, Petersfield, Hampshire

Converting original antique fireplaces to accept a small wood burning stove is a speciality of ours. Most fireplaces of this style can only fit the smallest of stoves. Luckily for us Salamander Stoves have created the Hobbit SE stove. Originally designed for narrow boats and shepherds huts, the hobbit is a perfect fit even for thew smallest of fireplaces. This small wood burning stove still has an output of 4KW which is ample for the typical room size we find associated with this style of fireplace.

Modern freestanding wood burner

Hwam 3120C Wood Burner Installation, Fleet, Hampshire

This beautiful modern wood burner is a Hwam 3120C was installed in a property in Church Crookham, Fleet, Hampshire. The Hwams are fantastic stoves with the highest fuel efficiency & a very clean burn. This is our go to brand when it comes to fitting contemporary freestanding styles of wood burners. The installation features a black granite hearth with a lightly textured finish which is laid directly over the new flooring. As the property was without a chimney we installed a new external Twinwall chimney system by Poujoulat in a black finish throughout.

This installation was part of the total renovation of the room – which included new flooring, skirting boards, wood paneling and new radiators. This was the perfect situation for us – we were able to fit the lintels and cut the hole through the wall at the early stage of the renovation. We then completed the plastering and fitted the entire length of the external flue. Once the floor was fitted and decorating completed it is the perfect time to lay the hearth and do the final install and commissioning of the wood burner it’s self.

Modern stove in a large modern inglenook fireplace.

Contura Woodburner Installation, FourMarks, Hampshire

The Contura i5 Woodburner was the only option available when it came to this unusual fireplace setup. The large inglenook fireplace features a much smaller firebox chamber which is very short but wide. Without wanted to disturb the existing setup which would have big cost implications we decided to fit the Contura i5 Woodburner into the exiting opening. This is actually a freestanding stove that can be fitted like an inset  – but it doesn’t require a specific opening size to work. With the swept arch and unusual size this worked perfectly.

Please get in touch if you would like advice on fitting a Woodburning stove in your property.

Inglenook fireplac with a new Woodburner and a new brick hearth

Inglenook Fireplace with New Woodburner & New Brick Hearth

We were asked to update this inglenook fireplace in a heritage property in Bentworth, near Alton, East Hampshire.

Firstly we removed a very old and inefficient wood burner and the existing chimney liner. The customer chose the very stylish Stovax Chesterfield wood burning stove as a replacement.

We decided to keep the original fireplace hood in situ as it was an original feature of the inglenook fireplace. A custom register plate was created to close the hood off from the room. We managed to replicate the rivets and slightly distress the finish to match the original fireplace hood.

The inglenook fireplace originally had an inadequate quarry tile hearth. It was decided to extend the hearth in a rustic brick work. This now provides the correct projection in front of the stove and matches in very well to the property.

This is a great example of how we can work with existing features to create something that looks as if it has always been there. Please get in touch if you have similar requirements for a new Woodburner, brick hearth or if you want to renovate your inglenook fireplace.

traditional wood burner with non combustible mantle

Esse 100SE Multi Fuel Stove Installation, Chawton, Alton, Hampshire

FireBug remodelled this fireplace with a stove installation in Chawton. The original was an inefficient open fire with brickwork surround. We removed this, relined the fireplace with a nice multi blend brickwork & fitted a non combustible mantle piece. The customers design required us to set the mantle piece in a position where an oak mantle would have been too close to the flue pipe. The solution for the was to install a non-combustible beam – you would be hard pressed to guess that this wasn’t actually a wooden beam.

The stove is a traditional styled Esse 100SE mutli fuel. A perfect stove for the wide opening. We sat this upon a large riven slate hearth. Although a hearth of this size is beyond the minimum requirements set out by the building regulations – a deep heath like this means that the stove door will stay over the hearth even when fully open. This prevents any ash dropping from the door onto the carpet.

We left the customer with a great way to heat their living room, which is clean, efficient and a great central feature for the room.

false chimney breast with chesneys stove

Chesney’s Salisbury 8 Log Burner With Twin Wall Flue System

One of our customers wanted to create a new focal point for their living room. They required a larger stove for the size and location of the room. We decided to fit a Chesney’s Salisbury 8 Multi Fuel stove. As there was no existing chimney present in the room we fitted a new factory made twin wall flue system by Poujoulat. The Twin wall flue system ran out through the wall and up the outside of the property.

To be in keeping with the house we opted to build a false chimney breast to house the log burner. This was a brickwork construction with a rustic rural blend brick interior. The customer specified a very rustic riven slate hearth & slim oak mantlepiece.

The Chesney’s Salisbury 8 gave the room a perfect central point. The final product blended in perfectly and gave them an efficient way of heating the room with a renewable fuel.
