Inglenook fireplac with a new Woodburner and a new brick hearth

Inglenook Fireplace with New Woodburner & New Brick Hearth

We were asked to update this inglenook fireplace in a heritage property in Bentworth, near Alton, East Hampshire.

Firstly we removed a very old and inefficient wood burner and the existing chimney liner. The customer chose the very stylish Stovax Chesterfield wood burning stove as a replacement.

We decided to keep the original fireplace hood in situ as it was an original feature of the inglenook fireplace. A custom register plate was created to close the hood off from the room. We managed to replicate the rivets and slightly distress the finish to match the original fireplace hood.

The inglenook fireplace originally had an inadequate quarry tile hearth. It was decided to extend the hearth in a rustic brick work. This now provides the correct projection in front of the stove and matches in very well to the property.

This is a great example of how we can work with existing features to create something that looks as if it has always been there. Please get in touch if you have similar requirements for a new Woodburner, brick hearth or if you want to renovate your inglenook fireplace.

Stuv Inset wood burner with brick fireplace

Stuv Inset Log Burner Installation, Bordon, Hampshire

FireBug were asked to fit a stove into this customers brickwork fireplace. When a fireplace opening is very small it is often best to fit an inset log burner. This type of stove will give you the biggest firebox for the size of the opening, as opposed to a freestanding that will need an air gap around the stove. The Stuv inset log burner looked great with the very modern looking fireplace. We removed the original fireback, swept and then lined the chimney. Fitting and testing the Stuv inset was the final stage.

The Stuv inset log burner is one of FireBug’s favourite inset stoves available, along with the Contura i4 – the goto stoves when a small inset log burner is required.

Log Burner in Country Cottage, Compton, Guildford, Surrey

This cottage is Compton in Surrey had an inefficient open fire that needed attention. There was a wooden lintel used in the brick fireplace and the opening had been closed down to try to make the fire work more efficiently. We first changed the oak support for a non combustible lintel with matching brickwork to face. Opened up the fireplace to the original opening size. The chimney was lined with a flexible flue liner and fitted with a rain cap. We then fitted a new oak mantle piece finished in a lime wax. This gave it a light finish to match the tiles of the hearth. The Stove is a Purefire Panoramic stove. The room is now cosy and warm with a clean and efficient wood burner.

External Fireplace with Twinwall Flue, Farnham, Surrey

FireBug were commissioned to construct an external fireplace chamber with twin wall chimney system.

This customer wanted to create a fireplace in a room without a chimney, but they didn’t want to loose the space that an internal false chimney breast take up. The solution is to build the fireplace chamber on the outside of the house.

This construction requires a small footing to be laid to support the weight of the new brickwork. We then match the construction of the main house, that is double skin brickwork with insulation. The fireplace chamber is operated from the roof structure by a fire break. We then run a Poujoulat twin wall chimney system to through the new roof structure to the correct termination height above the roof.

We then laid a granite front and back hearth inside and fitted a limestone fireplace surround. After this came the plastering and finally fitting the wood burning stove. The stove here is a Shoreditch 5 series.

Now our customer has a a safe & efficient way to heat their living room as well as a beautiful centre point to the room.
