traditional wood burner with non combustible mantle

Esse 100SE Multi Fuel Stove Installation, Chawton, Alton, Hampshire

FireBug remodelled this fireplace at a property in Chawton. The original was an inefficient open fire with brickwork surround. We removed this, relined the fireplace with a nice multi blend brickwork & fitted a non combustible mantle piece. The customers design required us to set the mantle piece in a position where an oak mantle would have been too close to the flue pipe. The solution for the was to install a non-combustible beam – you would be hard pressed to guess that this wasn’t actually a wooden beam.

The stove is a traditional styled Esse 100SE mutli fuel. A perfect stove for the wide opening. We sat this upon a large riven slate hearth. Although a hearth of this size is beyond the minimum requirements set out by the building regulations – a deep heath like this means that the stove door will stay over the hearth even when fully open. This prevents any ash dropping from the door onto the carpet.

We left the customer with a great way to heat their living room, which is clean, efficient and a great central feature for the room.

Chesney’s Salisbury 8 Log Burner With Twin Wall Flue System

One of our customers wanted to create a new focal point for their living room. They required a larger stove for the size and location of the room. We decided to fit a Chesney’s Salisbury 8 Multi Fuel stove. As there was no existing chimney present in the room we fitted a new factory made twin wall flue system. This ran through the wall and up the outside of the property.

To be in keeping with the house we opted to build a false chimney breast to house the log burner. This was a clockwork construction with a rustic rural blend brick interior. The customer specified a very rustic riven slate hearth & slim oak mantlepiece.

The Chesney’s Salisbury 8 gave the room a perfect central point. The final product blended in perfectly and gave them an efficient way of heating the room with a renewable fuel.

Stuv Inset wood burner with brick fireplace

Stuv Inset Log Burner Installation, Bordon, Hampshire

FireBug were asked to fit a stove into this customers brickwork fireplace. When a fireplace opening is very small it is often best to fit an inset log burner. This type of stove will give you the biggest firebox for the size of the opening, as opposed to a freestanding that will need an air gap around the stove. The Stuv Inset looked great with the very modern looking fireplace. We removed the original fireback, swept and then lined the chimney. Fitting and testing the Stuv inset was the final stage.

This is one of FireBugs favourite inset stoves available, along with the Contura i4 – the goto stoves when a small inset log burner is required.

Charnwood log burner ropley

Log Burner Installation, Ropley, Hampshire

FireBug were hired to update the fireplace in this victorian house in Ropley. The customer had already sourced a great stove – The C-four from Charnwood. The chimney needed sweeping, lining and some repairs to the chimney stack. We also capped the two disused chimney pots. There was an existing slate hearth with a wooden fireplace surround. We had to change the surround for a floating mantlepiece to meet the required distance to combustibles. There was also some changes needed to the brick lining of the fireplace. After plastering the fireplace looked great. They now have a great looking, clean burning, heat source for their front room.

Log Burner in Country Cottage, Compton, Guildford, Surrey

This cottage is Compton in Surrey had an inefficient open fire that needed attention. There was a wooden lintel used in the brick fireplace and the opening had been closed down to try to make the fire work more efficiently. We first changed the oak support for a non combustible lintel with matching brickwork to face. Opened up the fireplace to the original opening size. The chimney was lined with a flexible flue liner and fitted with a rain cap. We then fitted a new oak mantle piece finished in a lime wax. This gave it a light finish to match the tiles of the hearth. The Stove is a Purefire Panoramic stove. The room is now cosy and warm with a clean and efficient wood burner.

modern wood burner in inglenook fireplace

Wood Burner Installation Into Inglenook Fireplace, Bighton, Alresford, Hampshire

We were commissioned to fit a Chesney’s Shoreditch wood burner into an old inglenook fireplace in Bighton. The fireplace had been modelled a number of times over the years & was currently used as an open fire. We first removed the brick build fireplace chamber and seats. The chimney was lined and insulated and a new steel register plate fitted. We then lime rendered the interior of the fireplace and plastered the chimney breast. Where the original fire sate there was very bad damage to the brick hearth – the customer chose to have a new slate hearth laid to cover this area. We then repaired and stained the rest of the brick hearth to match the front section.

The stove is a Chesney’s Shoreditch 5 in silver finish. The hearth is a riven slate over an old brick hearth. The little door on the left of the fireplace is an old bread oven.

Wood Burner In False Chimney Breast, Farnham, Surrey

This is a classic twin wall flue installation, where there was no chimney present in the room. Creating a false chimney breast creates a feature in the room whilst keeping a traditional style. The chimney breast is constructed with a metal stud work, fire resistant board &. then plastered. The inside of the fireplace is lined with a heatproof cement board which can then be painted.

The wood burning stove is a Salisbury 5 by Chesney’s. We have fitted a floating oak mantlepiece finished in danish oil & a honed black granite hearth. All the elements have come together to transform this living room, whilst giving the customer a clean and efficient way of heating the room.

Floating oak mantle piece

Chesney’s Wood Burner With Oak Mantle, Farnham, Surrey

Chesney’s Salisbury 4 wood burner with floating oak mantle piece. This Victorian townhouse in Farnham had a cast iron fireplace and wooden surround. This was probably fitted the last ten years and wasn’t to the customer’s taste.

The chimney required sweeping and lining and some minor repairs. We also capped the other four disused chimney pots to keep the nesting birds and water ingress at bay. This was a particularly inaccessible chimney which needed scaffolding to do the required work.

After removing the surround and cast fireback we lime rendered the inside of the fireplace and plastered the front and sides of the chimney breast. It is at this point that we measure up for the hearth and get it cut by our stone mason. The customer requested a floating oak mantlepiece with a square planed finish to match the other woodwork in the room.

Once made we laid the hearth and fitted the mantle piece. The final stage is to install and test the wood burner. This has given the customer the much cleaner look that they wanted whilst giving them an efficient and clean way to heat their living room.
