traditional wood burner with non combustible mantle

Esse 100SE Multi Fuel Stove Installation, Chawton, Alton, Hampshire

FireBug remodelled this fireplace at a property in Chawton. The original was an inefficient open fire with brickwork surround. We removed this, relined the fireplace with a nice multi blend brickwork & fitted a non combustible mantle piece. The customers design required us to set the mantle piece in a position where an oak mantle would have been too close to the flue pipe. The solution for the was to install a non-combustible beam – you would be hard pressed to guess that this wasn’t actually a wooden beam.

The stove is a traditional styled Esse 100SE mutli fuel. A perfect stove for the wide opening. We sat this upon a large riven slate hearth. Although a hearth of this size is beyond the minimum requirements set out by the building regulations – a deep heath like this means that the stove door will stay over the hearth even when fully open. This prevents any ash dropping from the door onto the carpet.

We left the customer with a great way to heat their living room, which is clean, efficient and a great central feature for the room.

Log Burner in Country Cottage, Compton, Guildford, Surrey

This cottage is Compton in Surrey had an inefficient open fire that needed attention. There was a wooden lintel used in the brick fireplace and the opening had been closed down to try to make the fire work more efficiently. We first changed the oak support for a non combustible lintel with matching brickwork to face. Opened up the fireplace to the original opening size. The chimney was lined with a flexible flue liner and fitted with a rain cap. We then fitted a new oak mantle piece finished in a lime wax. This gave it a light finish to match the tiles of the hearth. The Stove is a Purefire Panoramic stove. The room is now cosy and warm with a clean and efficient wood burner.

Tiled Fireplace Renovation with Log Burner, Guildford, Surrey

FireBug were commissioned to repair this old tiled fireplace in Guildford, Surrey. The original fireplace had a cast iron fireback and the hearth was in a very bad state of repair. First we removed the cast iron fireplace and backfill. To line the sides of the fireplace we built new brickwork to match the original brick work at the back of the fireplace. The hearth was taken back to the sub hearth level & new matching tiles were laid. The tiles are a hand glazed fireplace tile, made in the traditional way so they matched perfectly.

With a fireplace opening of this size the goto log burner is the Hobbit by Salamander stoves. FireBug can supply and fit Hobbit stoves and all the Salamander accessories. Although the Hobbit looks small, it still has a output of 4 Kw which is by no means to small for a room of this size.

Cream Cast Iron Stove & Twin Wall Flue Installation, Godalming, Surrey

This the F100, a cast iron multi fuel stove by Jotul. The stove is finished in a cream enamel. This was an existing open fireplace with an unusable chimney. We ran a new twin wall chimney system though the bedroom above, through the loft space and exiting through the roof. The customer specified a light coloured hearth, which is a textured but lightly polished sandstone. The huge oak mantlepiece was found at a local reclamation yard and then finished sand blasted and oiled.

This stove gives a great centre piece to the room and matches perfectly the other decoration throughout the house.

modern double sided wood burner

Modern Double Sided Wood Burner, Ropley, East Hampshire

This property featured an unusually deep double sided open fire. The customer opted to have us install a Parkray Aspect 4 double sided, double depth stove.

There was a lot of heat damage to the inside of the fireplace from the original open fire – we first removed all the old material and then replaced this with heat proof render. This also required us to plaster each face of the chimney breast. The chimney was actually too large a diameter for the stove to function correctly so we opted to re-line the chimney with a flexible liner and bird guard cowl. Once all this work was completed we fitted the double sided stove. The customer had requested the stove to be set up as a multi fuel appliance, which in this case was an optional multi fuel kit. Once set up and tested the fire looked great and solved the problem of the draft, inefficient open fire.

Cast Iron Multi Fuel Stove, Puttenham, Guildford, Surrey

Here we have a large cast iron stove from ACR, needed to heat a very large room. The customer went for a multi fuel so they would have the option of burning either wood or smoke less coal. There was an old wooden fireplace surround which was too small to accommodate the appliance. We removed this & opened the fireplace up to the original opening size. The inside of the fireplace is finished in a lime render, whilst the chimney breast is finished in plaster to match the surrounding walls. Luckily there was an existing brick hearth which looked great.
