Freestanding Wood Burning Stove, Four Marks, East Hampshire

As part of the renovation of this bungalow in Four Marks, we were commissioned to install a freestanding wood burning stove. This property didn’t have a chimney so it was required to fit a twinwall flue system. The chimney runs up through the ceiling, through the loft space, and exits through the roof. The stove choice here was a Contura 850 in black finish on a textured granite hearth.

Contura is a great choice of stove for this style of installation. With its low distance to combustibles, the Contura range of wood burning stoves can sit just 100mm away from a combustible wall. The tall design of the stove also works better aesthetically when a stove is freestanding in the room. It is also quite handy to have an area to store your wood beneath the stove.

Remodelled stone fireplace

Wood Burner with Remodelled Stone Fireplace Surround, Tongham , Surrey

FireBug were commissioned to remodel an existing stone fireplace surround and install a new wood burner. After sweeping and lining the chimney we have to remove the existing fireback and open up the fireplace. We then rebuild the fireplace with a larger opening to accommodate the new wood burner. The original marble hearth was broken, so we laid a new ceramic tile hearth. The Stove choice was a favourite of ours – the Chesney Salisbury 4 wood burning stove. This job highlights the fact that you don’t always need to take everything out and start afresh. Installing a wood burner into this customers living room has given them a clean and tidy way to heat the room.

modern fireplace surround with inset log burner

Modern Fireplace Surround With Inset Log Burner, Headley, Hampshire

FireBug were asked to create a modern fireplace surround to house an inset wood burning stove. The fireplace is created out of brickwork with a heat proof render to finish. We made the mantlepiece from a beautiful piece of horse chestnut. This is finished with a natural wax and shows the natural edge of the wood.

The stove is a Contura i5 inset stove. We manufactured a trim which is painted to match the stove to really finish the fireplace off. Luckily we managed to utilise the original hearth which sits in front of the fireplace and inside the wood store area.

This fireplace really transformed the room and gave the customers a clean and efficient way to heat their living room.

Wood Burner Installation Into Inglenook Fireplace, Bighton, Alresford, Hampshire

We were commissioned to fit a Chesney’s Shoreditch wood burner into an old inglenook fireplace in Bighton. The fireplace had been modelled a number of times over the years & was currently used as an open fire. We first removed the brick build fireplace chamber and seats. The chimney was lined and insulated and a new steel register plate fitted. We then lime rendered the interior of the fireplace and plastered the chimney breast. Where the original fire sate there was very bad damage to the brick hearth – the customer chose to have a new slate hearth laid to cover this area. We then repaired and stained the rest of the brick hearth to match the front section.

The stove is a Chesney’s Shoreditch 5 in silver finish. The hearth is a riven slate over an old brick hearth. The little door on the left of the fireplace is an old bread oven.

Traditional Wood Burner, Guildford Installation , Surrey

FireBug was commissioned to update this existing fireplace in Guildford, Surrey. We swept, tested & lined the chimney. The chimney needed new pots and repointing. After this we capped the disused pots. There was a wooden lintel which had to be removed – we then used this for the floating mantlepiece. After all the building work was completed it was time to fit the stove. This customer was so taken with their stove that we need up installing a second stove in the next room.

wood burner with granite hearth and oak mantle

Wood Burner In False Chimney Breast, Farnham, Surrey

This is a classic twin wall flue installation, where there was no chimney present in the room. Creating a false chimney breast creates a feature in the room whilst keeping a traditional style. The chimney breast is constructed with a metal stud work, fire resistant board &. then plastered. The inside of the fireplace is lined with a heatproof cement board which can then be painted.

The wood burning stove is a Salisbury 5 by Chesney’s. We have fitted a floating oak mantlepiece finished in danish oil & a honed black granite hearth. All the elements have come together to transform this living room, whilst giving the customer a clean and efficient way of heating the room.

Electric inset wood burner

Stovax Radiance Electric Inset Stove, Haslemere, Surrey

This Customer wanted to have a central focal point in the room but didn’t require the high heat output of a wood burning stove. Going for an electric appliance removes the need for a chimney to take away combustion gasses. There was already the back of another chimney protruding into the room – we decided to extend this chimney breast to contain the Stovax Radiance inset stove. This was constructed with stud work, plaster boarded and plastered. We fitted matching cornice and skirting board to finish it off. This type of appliance doesn’t require a hearth but once could have been fitted, in this case the customer didn’t want to encroach into the room any more so chose to leave the hearth off.
